Sadly, Covid-19 has forced us to cancel our Annual Chili Cookoff fundraiser. While the stage has been dark for many months, the utilities and upkeep of the building and grounds continue. Through ongoing support of our generous members, event sponsors and through fundraisers like the Annual Chili Cookoff, the Old Theater has remained a center for performing arts in Pamlico County for over 70 years. In these unprecedented times, we need the support of our members, friends, and businesses more than ever to maintain this community asset.

This year, in lieu of the Chili Cookoff, we are putting the “fun” in fundraising by hosting a virtual talent show titled “Old Theater’s Got Talent” in collaboration with TownDock.net. While we hope many people will share their talents, we also hope to raise funds for the Old Theater through donations and sponsorship.

We have added a Donation tab on the right side of this page for online donations via PayPal for your convenience. You may also mail donations to the Old Theater, P.O. Box 521, Oriental, NC 28571. If you are interested in sponsoring the show for $100.00, please contact Andrea Bayard at andreab7321@gmail.com. The Old Theater Corporation is a registered 501©(3) non-profit organization, and all donations are tax deductible.

You’ll find the Old Theater at 609 Broad Street in the heart of Oriental, North Carolina. The building first opened as a movie theater in 1945 and served as a social and entertainment center until the late 1950s. It was revitalized and reopened in 1995 and today provides a venue where performing arts can thrive in Pamlico County.

The Old Theater is owned and managed by the Old Theater Corporation, a registered 501c3 organization comprised of Pamlico County volunteers whose mission is to ensure that Pamlico County and the town of Oriental has a venue for civic and cultural events. That mission is accomplished in the following ways

  • By the daily maintanance and operation of the facility and grounds;
  • by making the facility available for use by providers of performing arts and a variety of civic business, club and charity organizations; and
  • by presenting a broad range of theater-sponsored programs.

    The 2019 Old Theater Board: Front Row – Russ Stevenson, Pat Dixon, Don Henderson. Midddle Row – Marilyn Stern, Nancy Crain. Back Row – Laurie Gates, Jay Gates, Linda Larson, Izzy Keppner, Andrea Bayard. Absent – Mark Milos.

    The ability to achieve this mission depends on the ongoing support and participation of individual contributors, community businesses, service organizations, grants and folks who volunteer on stage and behind the scenes. If you would like to participate on a future event, go to our volunteer page. For more information call 252-249-0477 or email to oldtheater@gmail.com.
